  4. This program will extract files stored using the Macintosh program
  5. Stuffit.
  6.  
  7. Files included:
  8. UNSIT.TTP        The UNSIT program
  9. COMPRESS.TTP     Program used to decompress LZW
  10. UNSIT.DOC        UNIX documentation for UNSIT
  11. READ.ME          The file you are reading now
  12.  
  13. UNSIT.TTP and COMPRESS.TTP must be kept in the same folder.  If you use
  14. ARCSHELL, it must be in the same folder as UNSIT.TTP and COMPRESS.TTP.

  16. In addition to the Unix-style commands listed in UNSIT.DOC, limited command
  17. compatibility with ARC is also supported:

  19. unsit {exlv}[h] SITfile [destination]
  20.  
  21. x or e    Extract files (data fork only)
  22. l or v    List files
  23. h         Hold screen -- wait for a keypress before returning to the Desktop
  24.  
  25. All files will be extracted to the destination path.
  26.  
  27. UNSIT can be used in one of three ways:
  28.  
  29. 1.  TOS-Takes-Parameters.  Double click on UNSIT's icon, and enter the 
  30. parameters in the dialog.  They can be either upper case or lower case.
  31.  
  32. 2.  Install Application.  Single click on UNSIT's icon, and select Install
  33. Application in the Desktop's Options menu.  Fill in the application type
  34. with SIT, and click on install.  Select Save Desktop to make the installation
  35. permanent.  After UNSIT is installed, you can uncompress a SIT file by
  36. double clicking on it.  This does not work well under versions of TOS prior
  37. to 1.4.

  39. 3.  Charles F. Johnson's ARCSHELL.  Follow ARCSHELL's instructions for
  40. installing UNSIT as an alternate ARC utility.  Only the Extract, List, and
  41. Verbose list options are supported.  The only extract option that is
  42. valid is "All".  "To Folder" and "w/ Query" will NOT work.

  44. MACINTOSH FILE INFO
  45. ===================
  46. Macintosh files are made up of two parts:  a data fork, and a resource fork.
  47. The resource fork is vaguely akin to the ST's .RSC files.  UNSIT will extract
  48. the resource fork if you really want it, but under GEM it will do you no
  49. good.  What you want is the data fork, which contains the sound data,
  50. text, graphics images, or whatever.

  52. Most ST sound players can play Macintosh sound samples.  You will have to
  53. convert it to a .SND file (with the speed data prepended).
  54.  
  55. MacPaint documents can be viewed with PicSwitch.
  56.  
  57. Macintosh text files only have a cursor return at the end of each line.
  58. You will have to use a utility (such as DCOPY) to add linefeeds, otherwise
  59. all the text will print on one line.
